Mayweek: Sidney Sainsbury's

Enjoying our lunch at the Sidney Sussex
Hall. They don't take cash, but thankfully
someone was willing to take us on as guests.

Yuk-gwang shot, but a it has the hall.

The Cambridge foodshopping supermarket.

Possibly our last crash together.

TYG for all the memory-making crashes!

See you again soon Rehan, it's been
a pleasure to crash with you.

Easter Term Week 7: Homerton College!

Successful crashing of Homerton
thanks to Sungmin, a first year
Physics Natsci

Taking a break during the free-of-charge 6-hour
'supervision' session in Homerton library

It wasn't really a CHC crash.

But I'm glad I got to crash Homerton
(also takes cash, but it's quite hefty)
TYG.

Easter Term Week 6: Magdalene College

Semi-big face shot
(Jes didn't get quite get the concept)
in front of the Bibliotheca Pepysiana
after our crash of Magdalene
(not to be confused with Magdalen of Oxford)

The photo of successful crash.
With Jes and someone
else in the background (forgot name!)

In "Talking T's" after the crash.
I've always wanted to go to this shop.
One funny T-shirt we found read:
"I'm a bomb techinician.
If you see me running,
try to keep up."

In "The Bookshop' in front
of Magdalene

In Marshall room afterwards
with my newly-arrived
Trinidad and Tobago Shirt!

So Rehan and I finished exams.
It was an amazing feeling.
And the crash was good too.
(they took cash.)

I'm so thankful to God.

Next Week: Sidney Sussex?

Easter Term Week 5: Clown's Cafe

Enjoying gelato (strawberry, melon and banana)

It was straight after Rehan finished his first exam
(the bread and butter of 2nd Chem Eng paper)
that I saw him and invited him to a gelato at the nearby
Italian Cafe/Eatery. We were thrilled to see that
for both of us it was the first time to try it.
We were sorry that Rehan's fist paper was such a
difficult one.

Go Rehan, not long to go now!

Rehan's last one's this Friday,
and mine is on the Monday.

Easter Term Week 2: Peterhouse

With our crash-liason
Miss Hyesun Kim (2nd year medic)
The hall is very dark, but we
brightened up the place for a bit (quite literally).

La foto big-face in front court

This shot and the next were taken
using the 15-sec long exposure mode.

Ghosts! Apparitions!
Yet another exorcism?! ;)

So following the failed crash attempt
the last time, we planned this one in advance.

Hyesun, who had less than 11 days before
her Tripos, kindly agreed to come meet us
in the p'lodge. So in the end it was quite
an anticlimax to find out that Peterhouse
took cash. Oh well. Thanks all the same, Hyesun!

The oldest historical-hall-site-저거시기-whatchamacallit
in the whole of Europe. And did I mention Peterhouse
is the oldest College in Cambridge?

Thank you God for a nice crash!

Next week: Magdalene College

Easter Term 1: Queens' College

A Conveyor belt just like the one
in St Catz. Awesome!

A timed shot to get more of the
hall in. It's quite a modern one.
Queens' College (note the apostrophe-s)
(not be confused with the others in the world)

Rehan and I with the food. They took
cash, (guest charge 85p), and the food
was not so expensive. We were happy
with what we had (meatballs myself,
and vegetable curry for Rehan)

And they had olives in salad bar. Nice.

Big face shot in front of the
Mathematical Bridge.

It was a glorious sunny day today.
We were both feeling great, perhaps
because of that.

All the best with revision and the design
project Rehan!
Next Week: Peterhouse

Easter Holida Week 2: The Anchor

Peterhouse. The archetypical
tourist shot.

With chicken burgers
in the Anchor pub.

This week's crash has been
rather disappointing.

Peterhouse caff was closed over the
holidays, and when we went to the
Queens' College hall, it had shut
10 minutes ago (they shut at 1.15pm)

Rather hungry, we went for the Anchor Pub.

It was a good value meal, and the
deserts (chocolate pudding and icecream)
were something else altogether too.

Next week: We'll try Queens' again.

Easter Holiday 1: Pembroke College

Crashing Pembroke.
Taken by the lady who works there
(she insisted we wait until the
High Table was fully vacated)

Rehan enjoying his food.
Note the myriad dark haired Japanese
boys and girls at the far table

In front of the College Library.
We're well happy with this shot.

Rehan givin' it to the
Pitt 'Brad Pitt' Statue.
We have absolutely no idea
who this guy is.

A bit back to front, but
As we first entered the College.

So after Rehan's one week
with his parents in London,
we resume our Crash
during the Easter Holidays.
Care must be taken now since
not all colleges serve food
out-of-term. Thanks to Robert Crellin's
hospitality back in the days, I remembered
that Pembroke served food out of term.

They took cash. It was a
rinse of a crash. ;)

We were impressed with the
selection of mains and side dishes
on offer, and the food we had was
good.

It was also a time when I could
tell Rehan of my decision to go to America.

'But will America be ready for Joseph?'
said Rehan.

Thanks Rehan! ;)

I'll really miss friendship and
crashage with Rehan. TYG for them!

Next week: Peterhouse

Week 8: Emmanuel College

Emma Hall,
Just about to start.

Rehan enjoying
the meal

Looking rather
like a fellow with the
new jacket and shirt and all

The daddys of the angle.
The guy who took the
photo took it too literally
when I asked if he could "take the
photo kneeling down"

We got the clock tower in,
so that's good.

Emma was quite a difficult one
to crash. Although they accept cash,
they will not serve food
to any randoms. In the end someone
I knew from CICCU stuck out for us.

The food was good, and
reasonably priced too.

Here ends Lent term.
Thanks be to God for all
the memory-making
photo-taking crashes so far!

Rehan goes home for a week, so will
decide on our next crash when he comes back.

Week 7: Christ's College

Christ's College Upper Hall
Taken by Taeyang

A cheeky shot in First Court
with Taeyang.

Praise God for his blessed
providences!

A hallcrash catastrophe
nearly happened this week
when I realised that I'd forgotten
to recharge my digicam batteries
and that there was no more power left
to take a single shot.

A photoless crash? Never!

But thanks be to God who provided us
with Taeyang, a first year medic Korean
who graciously went to his room to fetch
his camera (the same model as mine!)
and lend me his battery.
Taeyang, Jungmal Gomawuh!

Christ's upper hall also takes cash.
(so far all colleges beginning with
the lstter 'C' takes cash: Clare,
Catz, Corpus, Christ's...
so the 'C' was for 'cash'? Johnny Cash
anyone? ..sorry)

The food was
cheaper than Corpus (at about 2.50)
and (according to Rehan) nicer than Catz.

Next week: Emmanuel College

Week 6: Corpus Christi College

In the Corpus Christi
Front Court

In the hall. The welcome
ray of sunlight literally
lasted for the duration of our shot.

Corpus Christi hall
was a pleasure to crash.

A bit expensive, but then
where else can you get a decent
stake meal for 4.50 pounds in the
middle of Cambridge?

The college also took cash.

For the records, Rehan and I
crashed this hall on the Thursday
and not Tuesday, because
Rehan was unwell on the Tuesday.

Next week: Christ's College

Week 5: St Catharine's College

La shot touriste with the
front court of St Catz.

St Catz is full of benches.
A convenient place to come
rest your feet if you're in the
middle of the town.

It was our first time to
come to St Catz hall. We had to
look it up on the map in front of
the porter's lodge.

Not a little nervous,
we found our way to the hall
(stuck away at the far corner
of front court).

They accepted cash. It was
a rinse to crash.

In the hall, with Rachel!
It was great to see her.
(patience, Rehan!)
Rachel also filled us in on
lots of St Catz peculiarities
(use of word 'rinse' and
speaking slowly viz
"that is baaaad". And
yes, Gandalf went to Catz)

Rinseage.

The food was okay, and
really we couldn't complain.

How cool is that! A little
conveyor belt for leftover trays.
The coolest we've seen by far.

Next Week: Corpus Christi College

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Week 4: King's College

A classic shot outside
the King's porter's lodge.

The weather was good.
Not so cold, and with sunny spells.

Rehan had a juicy leg of duck
with some potato
wedges and I had some
fried fishy noodles. All in all
a very good crash.

Another shot of Rehan
sporting his red "I don't
want to be seen wearing
the same clothes week after
week on CHC blog" jumper.

King's proved to be a surprisingly
easy crash. Hard cash accepted--and not
so expensive either.

Yesterday was Rehan's 21st and
I was so gutted that I didn't know.
Will make up for it this Thursday.

Next Week: St Catharine's College

Tuesday, February 07, 2006

Week 3: Holy Trinity Church (Identity Talk)

Cheeky shot outside
Henry Martin Hall
before going in to HTC
picking up a sandwich
before the talk

So after a break last week
(even the almighty crashers
need one now and again)
we thought it would be great
to 'crash' a CICCU Mission talk
since this is the Identity Week.

The talk title was
"Won't God accept me as I am?"

It was a very good talk
addressing the non-religious
atheists about the implications
of a personal God.

Rehan, who had only heard of
"the Prodigal Son" but never
actually heard the story,
thought it was good.
The baguettes were good. (and free!)

Next Week: King's College

Lent Term Week 1: Clare College

A whole new term of Cambridge
Hall Crash. The future is bright.
It's amazing. TYG.

God once again provided us
with a random college
student who let us in on his card.

The food at Clare was good--I had
some vegetarian pie thing and Rehan
had some chicken with potatoes.

We thought that their newly-built
eatery area was very 'functional',
with some nice little photos on the walls.

A "who's yer daddy" angle shot
of the angle daddy. Lovin' it.

Actually on the way out we just had to
take a shot of us in the Old Hall too.

Note the twit with the hat on in the background
trying to get in on a bit of the action.

We also discussed the possibility of
inviting a third member into our party
(and yes, names were mentioned)
but we decided against it, for

"Two's company, three's a crowd."
