Week 8: Emmanuel College

We got the clock tower in,
so that's good.

Emma was quite a difficult one
to crash. Although they accept cash,
they will not serve food
to any randoms. In the end someone
I knew from CICCU stuck out for us.

The food was good, and
reasonably priced too.

Here ends Lent term.
Thanks be to God for all
the memory-making
photo-taking crashes so far!

Rehan goes home for a week, so will
decide on our next crash when he comes back.

Week 7: Christ's College

Praise God for his blessed

A hallcrash catastrophe
nearly happened this week
when I realised that I'd forgotten
to recharge my digicam batteries
and that there was no more power left
to take a single shot.

A photoless crash? Never!

But thanks be to God who provided us
with Taeyang, a first year medic Korean
who graciously went to his room to fetch
his camera (the same model as mine!)
and lend me his battery.

Christ's upper hall also takes cash.
(so far all colleges beginning with
the lstter 'C' takes cash: Clare,
Catz, Corpus, Christ's...
so the 'C' was for 'cash'? Johnny Cash
anyone? ..sorry)

The food was
cheaper than Corpus (at about 2.50)
and (according to Rehan) nicer than Catz.

Week 6: Corpus Christi College

In the Corpus Christi

In the hall. The welcome
ray of sunlight literally
lasted for the duration of our shot.

Corpus Christi hall
was a pleasure to crash.

A bit expensive, but then
where else can you get a decent
stake meal for 4.50 pounds in the
middle of Cambridge?

The college also took cash.

For the records, Rehan and I
crashed this hall on the Thursday
and not Tuesday, because
Rehan was unwell on the Tuesday.

Week 5: St Catharine's College

St Catz is full of benches.
A convenient place to come
rest your feet if you're in the
middle of the town.

It was our first time to
come to St Catz hall. We had to
look it up on the map in front of
the porter's lodge.

Not a little nervous,
we found our way to the hall
(stuck away at the far corner
of front court).

They accepted cash. It was
a rinse to crash.

Rachel also filled us in on
lots of St Catz peculiarities
(use of word 'rinse' and
speaking slowly viz
"that is baaaad". And
yes, Gandalf went to Catz)

The food was okay, and
really we couldn't complain.

Week 4: King's College

The weather was good.
Not so cold, and with sunny spells.

Rehan had a juicy leg of duck
with some potato
wedges and I had some
fried fishy noodles. All in all
a very good crash.

King's proved to be a surprisingly
easy crash. Hard cash accepted--and not
so expensive either.

Yesterday was Rehan's 21st and
I was so gutted that I didn't know.
Will make up for it this Thursday.

Week 3: Holy Trinity Church (Identity Talk)

So after a break last week
(even the almighty crashers
need one now and again)
we thought it would be great
to 'crash' a CICCU Mission talk
since this is the Identity Week.

The talk title was
"Won't God accept me as I am?"

It was a very good talk
addressing the non-religious
atheists about the implications
of a personal God.

Rehan, who had only heard of
"the Prodigal Son" but never
actually heard the story,
thought it was good.

The baguettes were good. (and free!)

Lent Term Week 1: Clare College

A whole new term of Cambridge
Hall Crash. The future is bright.
It's amazing. TYG.

God once again provided us
with a random college
student who let us in on his card.

The food at Clare was good--I had
some vegetarian pie thing and Rehan
had some chicken with potatoes.

We thought that their newly-built
eatery area was very 'functional',
with some nice little photos on the walls.

Actually on the way out we just had to
take a shot of us in the Old Hall too.

trying to get in on a bit of the action.

We also discussed the possibility of
inviting a third member into our party
(and yes, names were mentioned)
but we decided against it, for

"Two's company, three's a crowd."

Week 4: Trinity Hall

First Court. It had to be done right?

In so many ways this crash brought
back many memories. I miss you Daniel!

The definitive shot of Trinity Hall.
Well pleased with this one.

Today the Cambridge Hall Crash entered
a new phase. Rehan and I were outside
Peppercorns, having just met. In a
moment of inspiration, Rehan suggested
that we actually try to crash the Trinity Hall
cafeteria--ie ask someone (anyone?) if
we could go in on their card. In fact,
I was thinking of the very thing, especially
what with many people in Tithall
still (hopefully) recognising me as
'Daniel's bro at Jesus'. So off we went,
empty-handed this time.

I was at a loss when I realised that I
could not recognise anyone in the hall.
After a few minutes of contemplating,
we just decided to approach a random
with hard cash. And it worked! He was
a bit bemused (to say the least), but was
happy to oblige (especially when I told him
I had a brother who studied here. It
helped that the guys who were serving
were asking me for Daniel, how he
was doing in the army etc. ;)

Food: Rehan had some lamb stew
and I had a toad-in-the-hole with
mashed potatoes. I always knew
tithall caff to be good, and this
was again a delicious affair. 9/10.

Week 3: Gonville and Caius College

Another week of Cambridge

Hall Crash. 13:10 Rendez-vous at
the Peppercorns.
Purchase baguettes.

Well pleased with this first
timed shot attempt. Got both
Rehan and I *and* the
Stephen Hawking portrait.

However, the college
butler came and told us we could
not have our own food in the hall.

For the first time the
Hall Crashers get busted.

Shaken but not stirred, we find
the JCR, finish off the sandwiches,
and have a good chat. 14:00,
Rehan and I finally
part our ways to the ChemEng
department and the Cavendish
respectively to resume our Cambridge days.

Week 2: St John's College

Until today I did not know of
this 'buttery' in St John's College.
You learn someting every day.

Week 1: Trinity College

So it all began when I met Rehan in town
on the way back from my lectures.
We agreed to have Peppercorn sandwiches
(arguably the best in Cam?),
and were wondering where to have
the sandwiches, when Rehan
made the inspired suggestion
that we go to my favourite college.

So upon entering Trinity, alas we could not
find any benches in the courts.
Then it occured to us:
why not eat the sandwich in the Hall?

And we soon decided that
every Tuesday lunch would be
a sandwich in the hall of a different
Cambridge College.
